Throttle & pedal position codes
Drive-by-wire throttles report their position with two sensors that must track each other, and the pedal does the same. When they disagree or read out of range, the engine often drops into reduced-power “limp” mode to stay safe. Carbon on the throttle plate, a worn sensor, or a connector problem are the usual causes.
Throttle control fault — the engine may enter reduced-power (limp) mode.
Common causes
- Throttle body (sensor or motor) wear/carbon
- Accelerator pedal sensor
- Connector/wiring between throttle body and PCM
- 5 V reference circuit fault
First checks
- Compare throttle positions A and B — they should track each other smoothly
- Watch commanded vs actual throttle while slowly pressing the pedal
- Wiggle-test the throttle body connector while watching live data
- Inspect/clean carbon from the throttle plate
